Color Trip
Color Trip is a vintage overdrive pedal designed for lovers of 70's English guitar sound. LeeHooker brings you a faithful replica of the legendary Overdriver / Power Boost from Colorsound.
Thanks to its wide range gain pedal offers anything from a transparent clean boost that dynamically and openly enhances the sound of your tube amplifier, through a dynamic and readable overdrive, to the cut through and predatory fuzz Fuzz Face was known for. Even with great distortion the pedal is very quiet. Bass and treble corrections are very effective, colorful and enjoyable across the whole spectrum of sound. Color Trip offers a very unique type of distortion, which is hard to find on modern pedals. The pedal sensitively responds to the changes of the volume potentiometer on the guitar and maintains natural dynamics. It can be powered with a 9V battery as well as an adapter in the 9–18V range. At 18V, the pedal has the so-called larger headroom – dynamic space and behaves almost identically to the Colorsound Power Boost.
Color Trip works well with both single coil and humbucker pickups. It's exactly the type of pedal for straight guitar-pedal-amplifier wiring. Fender or Marshall Plexi, Color Trip communicates well with both.
To get the best sound, we do not recommend buffering before Color Trip. In most cases the pedal is not able to do its best. We recommend that you place Color Trip at the beginning of your effect chain before the pedals that have the buffer still active even when they are off (such as the older Boss tuners, etc.).
Colorsound Overdriver played the lead role in the guitar sound of such players as Marc Bolan from T. Rex, Jeff Beck, or Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin.
After some time of testing and research, LeeHooker decided to use the original 1971 wiring for the Color Trip with the Bc 109 series metal jacket transistors. Fortunately for us we rere able to purchase a limited number of these unique transistors, which are original NOS from the 70s. Although Colorsound used a cheaper plastic jacket version of the Bc 184 / Bc 169 transistors (the price probably played a role here), after careful testing the use of Bc 109 was more appropriate. With these transistors pedal produces much more vibrant, harmonious and more dynamic sound. We also adjusted the value of the Drive potentiometer to improve the transition from pure boost to full fuzz distortion. Another improvement is the addition of Volume potentiometer for the overall volume control.
LeeHooker effects are true handmade custom boutique pedals. All models are made in the Czech Republic.
